BOHS Accredited Courses

Occupational Hygiene in FactoryPaul Ramsden our principle occupational Hygiene consultant is an accredited BOHS training provider and can provide the following BOHS Courses:

  • P601 Thorough Examination and Test of LEV Systems
  • P602 Basic Design Principles of LEV systems
  • P604 Performance Evaluation and Management of LEV Systems
  • W201 Basic Principles of Occupational Hygiene

Course can either be provided in-house at the clients premises or at our training facilities conveniently located in the East Midlands. It is expected that the range of BOHS accredited courses that we can provide will expand in the future.

P604 – Performance Evaluation and Management of Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems

BOHS Approved Course ProviderThis is a new course developed by Paul in conjunction with ILEVE and BOHS. It will become the benchmark by which all LEV systems will be commissioned and assessed as fit for purpose.

The aims of P604 are to provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to enable the student to:

  • Understand the basic principles of how airborne contaminants are generated by industrial processes, how this impacts on the control strategy, and how the performance of control solutions can thereby be evaluated and optimized.
  • Understand the importance of design considerations (in terms of the workplace, process, and plant) in reducing occupational exposures.
  • Recognise the range of approaches to risk reduction embodied in the hierarchy of control
  • Understand the principles and the main elements of an LEV system and understand the basic design features of LEV systems to facilitate adequate control of the identified hazards.
  • Recognise the limitations of local exhaust hoods and enclosures and the means to optimise their effectiveness.
  • Understand how to carry out the necessary measurements to assess whether a local exhaust ventilation system is effective and operating to the design specification.
  • Understand the principles and methods of air sampling and interpretation and limitation of results
  • Be able to determine either qualitatively and quantitatively as appropriate whether an LEV system is capable and achieving adequate control of the identified hazards
  • Be able to diagnose the likely causes of poor system performance, and provide suitable advice to remedy any faults discovered.
  • Determine the operating criteria for continued performance to specification and Develop a testing criteria for routine maintenance checks. Have the ability to Advise on appropriate user pre use checks and user training.
  • Produce commissioning reports, user manuals and system log books to retain suitable records of the results of examination and testing as required by regulatory guidance and codes.
